Holidays From the Bigger World
devised with PYL collective
Would you like to experience what it’s like to be a flying insect approaching a soft drink? Or perhaps, how to transform into an alternative fur seal? Or alternatively an alternative grasshopper? In ‘Holidays From The Bigger World’, the collective PYL offers these very possibilities to anyone who’s tired of inhabiting a confined human body.
PYL creates a playground where any kind of visitor – a kid, an adult, a dog or its flea – can find a suitable role in the open system. Everyone is invited to forget about rational logic and surf into a new reality composed in collaboration with many meta-pandemic mythological creatures. The space becomes an environment where you can experience a journey passing by a futuristic Talking Swamp (where you cannot drown), encountering a Lonely Orange or an Emotional Plastic Bag. By accepting the terms and conditions of the game, you can discover a sudden transformation of a mobile phone box into a fin of a dolphin and confess your love to Slime (at any moment).
This interactive installation seeks to discover possibilities of engagement with everyday materials through play, embodiment, and close interactions involving haptic, visual, and sonic senses. PYL collective examines scenographical settings that reduce the distance between the audience and the objects involved, using interactive technologies, scores, and textures that invite curiosity and provoke action.
The project can be presented in various settings (white cube, black box, in situ) and can be accompanied by community workshop ‘extending the senses’.
