murmuration # 6 – sounding objects
In June 2025 I participated in murmuration field trip in Glenshee, Scotland, and lead a workshop session developed in reaction to the theme of the trip – sounding objects. This workshop explored amplification both as a technical process and a strategy for engaging with the materiality of everyday objects. Participants experimented with electret microphones, portable speakers, and other recording and playback equipment, approaching them as active agents of performance. The session culminated in a collective improvisation in a nearby forest.
murmuration is a series of field trips focused on collective exploration of techniques of listening, recording and being within the environment. The series is curated and facilitated by Jez riley French and Pheobe riley Law.
